Barr Cottage is the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This beautifully appointed self-catering cottage sleeps four. The cottage is located on the original home farm of the Minard Castle estate nestling on a ridge above Loch Fyne. Barr Cottage offers you the best of both worlds. It is the ideal base for exploring the history, natural history, archaeology and heritage of this amazing part of Argyll – our website offers a host of itineraries and ideas to inspire your visit – from Kilmartin Glen with over 800 archaeological sites, the 3rd largest tidal whirlpool in the world, the Crinan Canal, national nature reserves and our wonderful wildlife including beavers! It is also the perfect place to unwind; let the magic of peaceful, cosy Barr Cottage transport you.
It is so comfortable you may never want to leave. A wood-burning stove, games and a very well stocked book case are ready for those who would like some downtime and a digital detox. But there is superfast broadband and a smart TV for others that want to stay in touch whilst they relax. The full-sized kitchen and spacious dining area, including a window seat overlooking the gardens and bird feeders, is a favourite spot for a leisurely breakfast plus bird and red squirrel watching. At night with the blinds down and candles lit the room is transformed for a romantic supper or relaxed dinner with friends. Outside the views from the large cottage gardens and surrounding farmland are spectacular, from April onwards there are lambs all around. The sunsets and sunrises are spectacular.
For a gentle adventure take our favourite walk from your front door via farm tracks and forest paths to the shores of Loch Fyne joining the Brainport Heritage trail, the site of a pre-historic solar alignment. You can explore the rocky shore and pebble beach and watch the myriad of seabirds, seals and occasionally porpoise in Loch Fyne. For the more adventurous, we have plenty of space for you to bring and store your bikes or kayaks and a drying room for outdoor gear. The paddling from the small-craft launching area in the Village is amazing and only 5 minutes away by car. There are tiny islands to explore, a sand and shell spit that’s only uncovered at low tide and a ruined castle on the opposite shore. There are off-road bike trails suitable for all abilities all within a short drive of the cottage.
There are so many wonderful hill, forest, woodland and coastal walks to try and we are happy to share our favourite cafes, pubs and restaurants so you can enjoy the best Argyll has to offer as you explore. Each Thursday night between 5pm and 6pm a fresh fish, seafood, fruit and veg mobile shop parks outside the cottage so you don’t even need to travel to buy the finest fresh food. So what are you waiting for? Click through to our website, choose your dates and book now.
We look forward to welcoming you to Barr Cottage. Please note: We do have a no smoking and no animals restriction.
