Tiree is known for it's sunshine, beaches and warm welcome!

Tiree is Coll’s neighbouring island, the most westerly of the Inner Hebrides. With higher than average sunshine hours, stunning beaches and mild climate, it makes a fantastic summer getaway. At 12 miles long and three miles wide it’s a small island, but many days can easily be spent soaking up the peaceful island atmosphere.

Perched on the edge of the Atlantic, Tiree is windy – but don’t let this put you off. It makes the island a world-class windsurfing destination, hosting the Tiree Wave Classic event each year. And – if you would rather stay on land – Tiree’s windiness means that midges are virtually non-existent!

There are several sandy beaches on the island, backed by machair – a fertile sandy grassland unique to western Scotland and Ireland. In summer, the machair is scattered with gorgeous wildflowers, adding to the already spectacular island scenery.

There are several archaeological sites on Tiree, including Dùn Mòr Bhalla, or Vaul Broch, and Dùn Mòr a’ Chaolais, double-walled, cylindrical ancient defensive structures and dwellings.

Like neighbouring Coll, Tiree benefits from spectacular night skies thanks to its remote position and low light pollution. On a clear night, the milky way can be seen among hundreds of thousands of faraway stars. We recommend taking a blanket and something warm to drink and enjoying the skies from one of Tiree’s fantastic beaches.

Tiree can be reached by ferry from Oban (via Coll), or by plane from Glasgow, or by a small plane service that operates between Oban, Coll, Tiree and Colonsay. There are cafes and restaurants, arts and crafts shops and well-stocked local stores on the island.
