Kilmartin Museum

Scottish Museum in Lochgilphead, Argyll

Kilmartin Museum inspires and educates people by interpreting, explaining and conserving the internationally important archaeological landscape, artefacts and natural heritage of Kilmartin Glen. Sites within Kilmartin Glen include Dunadd, Burial Cairns, Rock Art, Standing Stones and Temple Wood Stone Circles, over 800 monuments and sites have been found within Kilmartin Glen. Our museum offers a range of activities for the younger visitors including a quern stone for grinding wheat and a activity booklet available from the museum entrance.

Throughout the year we offer weekly guided walks through the glen with our volunteer guides who will pass on their knowledge of this special archaeological landscape as you take in the cairns, standing stones and Temple Wood. Please contact the museum for more details. We also have a Museum Gift and Book Shop which offers a distinctive collection of gifts, books and artwork from local artists, where we have some exclusive designs for Kilmartin Museum. We offer a selection of books many offer histories of Argyll and Scotland and are written by local authors, We also have a range of novels, guide books, biography’s and archaeological books. One of the essential guide books to the local area is our own guide book In the Footsteps of Kings which takes you through the history of the area followed by local walks with maps and directions. In the shop we also offer a range of Children’s books and gifts. We endeavour that our products are either locally sourced or Scottish.
