Torridon is a walker's paradise, whether it's a challenging mountain climb or a rugged coastal walk that you're looking for

Torridon is a small, pretty village tucked at the foot of the mountains overshadowing Upper Loch Torridon. Despite being small, Torridon is a popular spot for tourists and mountaineers – although the 10 mile single track road to access it keeps the crowds away!

Torridon lies in the shadow of three mountains, each of which are considered among the finest in Scotland. Beinn Alligin, the smallest of the three (although by no means small!), as a fantastic ridgeline traverse and some truly spectacular viewpoints. Beinn Eighe is the bulkiest of the three, and walkers are rewarded with spectacular scenery of Coire Mhic Fhearchair, with its cliffs looming over a lochan. It is here that the tragedy of the 1951 Lancaster plane crash that led to the formation of the modern-day mountain rescue teams. The third mountain, Liathach, is a long, technical walk with over 1300m of climbing and should be taken on only by experienced walkers. Between the three mountains, six Munros (summits over 3,000ft) can be ‘bagged’.

If mountain climbing isn’t your thing, there are plenty of lower-grade walks around the area. The Shieldaig peninsula to the south of Loch Torridon is particularly beautiful.

We recommend a visit to the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve Visitor Centre, which showcases the mountain peaks, ancient pinewoods, and wildlife including majestic golden eagles found in the area.

There are several options for accommodation in the area, from a luxury hotel to a free ‘campsite’ – although be warned, the midges in the campsite can be particularly bad!

With stunning scenery, incredible wildlife, majestic mountains and a serene and peaceful vibe, Torridon is a favourite for many and well worth a trip on your visit to Scotland.
